Madsaki

Madsaki is a contemporary Japanese artist known for his vibrant, irreverent style that blends pop culture references with a raw, graffiti-like aesthetic. Born in 1974 in Osaka, Japan, Madsaki moved to New Jersey, USA, at a young age, and his cross-cultural experiences have deeply influenced his work. His work often features iconic images and characters from Western popular culture, reinterpreted with bold brushstrokes, neon colors, and dripping paint.

He studied at Parsons School of Design in New York, but his early work was primarily rooted in street art and graffiti. His style, marked by loose, exaggerated lines and a raw, spontaneous energy, often challenges traditional notions of fine art. Madsaki is known for his “Wannabe” series, where he recreates classic works by artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Pablo Picasso, rendering them with a playful and almost childlike quality. Through these reinterpretations, Madsaki comments on the art world’s reverence for masterpieces while celebrating and questioning the boundary between high and low art.

Madsaki’s collaborations with luxury and streetwear brands such as Adidas, Off-White, and Takashi Murakami have solidified his place in the global art and fashion scene. His work has been exhibited internationally, including in Japan, New York, and Paris, drawing fans from diverse backgrounds.
